Im alittle late on timely posting all the great days Ive had this Fall but i will try to do a better job and update this report twice a week. It was a solid Fall in Northern Michigan, the Chinook Salmon run was one of the best ive seen in a very long time as far as numbers of fish returning. As always, properly cured eggs were our go to and with our dialed in egg prep, alittle bit goes a long ways. Beads held their own towards the end of the season when water temps were cooling and some of the fish became "stale". That and I finally worked up the confidence to fish them and "believe"..
The Steelhead fishing has been awesome! As always, Indicators on Fly Rods dominate the game, and are still dominating. i suspect we will have strong Indy fishing for another two weeks with these warmer than usual water temps. Then, it will be time to employ the Float Fishing tactics in spots, using Baitcasters, Spin, and Centerpin setups. Ive been fishing four river systems, trying to "chase clouds and bad weather" too keep the bite good and numbers high. When there are clouds and crappy weather, the bite is good. Bright sun and bluebird sky days make it alittle tougher, so stealth ninja approach and presentation is key! The fish are running big this Fall, but even a six pound chromer is gonna give you a run for your money. Im looking forward to seeing what the next month holds, until its time to sit inside in front of the vise with a glass of Bourbon and pump out some Streamers, bugs and jigs! Here are a few of my recent trips and a sample of some of the fish we've boated.
Joe with a few fish from a high pressure day
Joe on Day 2. It always pays to book two days, ensuring one day will be epic, and this day was one for the books!
Wayne, doing his thing with the Indy rod. Dude gets umm!
Quintin just got back from guiding hunts in Wyoming, getting into them the proper way! Too many to count!
Chad and Scott with acouple specimens on a tough day, and a very impressive tangle up
If youre looking for a productive day onb the water, we have some solid fishing still to be had this November, with some scattered dates throughout the month. Give us a call or email to discuss a trip!
